Labor Unions Emerge PG. 67

  1. Based upon what I have read, labor unions were good because they stoop up for what they believed in which was better working conditions for their hard work.
  2. The tenement it self; with a ladder only reaching the 6th floor.
  3. The Triangle Shirt Waist Factory was a sweatshop in which 146 seamstresses died because a fire occured and they were locked in. It was located on the 9th floor; however, the fire escape only reached the 9th. Due to the monopolist, the workers were caged in because of the fear of losing merchandise. These deaths could have been prevented if they had better working conditions and had realiable tools such as better water sprinklers and a ladder that was capable of reaching.
  4. This is the IWW's logo, socialist who wanted workers rights to be met.
  5. Monopolists did not want unions because they simply rebelled against them. Union members did not like scabs because they were replacing them when they were on strike.
  6. Many factory and sweatshop owners disliked the vision of unions like the IWW because they were socialist; which were people who also fought for workers rights.
